The American Cannabinoid Clinics is an integrative medical practice based in the nascent field of functional endocannabinology. American Cannabinoid Clinics providers are cannabinoid and endocannabinoid system specialists who manage patients’ use of cannabinoid therapies, natural foods and supplements, and cannabimimetic practices (such as detoxification, oxygenation, yoga, meditation, and exercise) according to the underlying function or dysfunction of the endocannabinoid system. Through this model, the American Cannabinoid Clinics delivers lifestyle-based, precision medical care to patients seeking a personalized approach to medical management and healing.
American Cannabinoid Clinics care is integrative - great care is taken to teach patients about how cannabinoid therapies and other integrative lifestyle modalities impact health so they can become actively involved in their healing processes.
American Cannabinoid Clinics care is functional - the emphasis is placed on addressing the key, underlying causes of a patient’s health concerns (instead of treating symptoms alone) so patients can get and stay well with a reduced or eliminated prescription drug burden.
American Cannabinoid Clinics care is personalized - recognizing that everyone is unique and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to medical care, goals and treatments are personalized to each patient.
The American Cannabinoid Clinics has established visibility, credibility, and notoriety in the medical cannabis space. Its founders, the Doctors Knox, are a family of physicians with backgrounds in emergency medicine, anesthesia, family medicine, integrative medicine, and preventive medicine who have expanded their expertise to include integrative cannabinology and functional endocannabinology. The Knox Docs are internationally recognized as thought leaders in the care of the endocannabinoid system and cannabinoid therapeutics.
Together with Veterans Canna-Biz, ADVENT Academy will educate a Veteran population in the cultivation, processing, and use of cannabinoid therapies for self-care and empowerment. ADVENT Academy will co-develop with this population Veteran-specific coursework for the purposes of elevating and advancing Veteran-related competencies across enterprises and stakeholder groups in and adjacent to the cannabis industry.

Dr. Rachel Knox, MD, MBA

Cannabinoid Medicine Specialist
Endocannabinologist
CEO, ADVENT Academy
Co-founder, American Cannabinoid Clinics
Chair, Oregon Cannabis Commission
Qualifications: Certified cannabinoid medicine specialist; Advisory board member for the American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine (AACM); Co-founder of Doctors Knox, Inc. and the American Cannabinoid Clinics; CEO and co-founder of ADVENT Academy; Chair of the Oregon Cannabis Commission; Internationally recognized expert and experienced speaker in Cannabinoid Medicine
Experience: Dr. Rachel Knox is passionate about educating her professional peers and broader public about the safety and effectiveness of cannabinoid medicine. Cannabinoid medicine is the evidence-based clinical integration of endocannabinology - the study of the function, dysfunction and modulation of the most important physiologic system in the human body (the ECS) - with cannabinology, the study of the pharmacology of cannabinoids and other cannabimimetics. She believes that the ECS validates a biopsychosociospiritual model of medicine, and that it provides the biological evidence for the ancient medical practices that model the same.
As a cannabinoid medicine specialist and endocannabinologist who has counseled several thousand patients in cannabinoid therapeutics, she has seen first-hand how significant a role cannabis and cannabimimetic modalities play in helping patients reclaim their health and overall sense of wellness, establishing renewed ownership over their lives. She has witnessed her patients safely use cannabis as adjunctive therapy to their conventional or natural treatment plans, to wean from prescription drugs, find relief from the side effects of toxic therapies, or avoid conventional pharmaceuticals altogether.
Dr. Rachel believes that industry-wide engagement is necessary to maintain the highest standards of care and oversight, from seed to use, in the service of providing education and compassionate, wholly informed care to patients. This passion extends further into educating communities of color in the role cannabis can play in addressing the Minority Health Disparity Gap, and the broader way in which cannabis can impact the physical, spiritual, social, economic and political wellness of these communities.
In addition to the aforementioned qualifications, Dr. Knox is medical committee chairperson for the Minority Cannabis Business Association, member of the Cannabis Policy Oversight Team for Portland, OR, board member of NuLeaf Project Portland, and spokesperson for Doctors for Cannabis Regulation (DFCR).
Education: Dr. Rachel Knox received her medical and business degrees from Tufts University after completing her undergraduate studies at Duke. She trained in Family and Integrative Medicine before pursuing additional study in the areas of Functional Medicine, Cannabinoid Medicine, and Endocannabinology.

Dr. David Knox, MD

Cannabinoid Medicine Specialist
Endocannabinologist
Co-founder, AC Clinics
Co-founder, ADVENT Academy
Qualifications: Board certified in Emergency Medicine; Co-founder of the American Cannabinoid Clinics; Co-founder of ADVENT Academy; Internationally recognized expert and experienced speaker in Cannabinoid Medicine
Experience: After 40 years of clinical experience in emergency medicine, Dr. David Knox expanded his expertise to include endocannabinology and cannabinoid therapeutics.
Dr. David notes the degree of results cannabis has had on a variety of maladies, but perhaps none more common than chronic pain, a condition which plagues emergency rooms nationwide. He has cared for thousands of patients who have been able to significantly reduce or eliminate their need for opioids for chronic pain. Motivated by this success, Dr. David launched into further study of cannabis, the science of the endocannabinoid system (ECS), and their applications to patient care.
Dr. David is a proponent of the continued clinical study and scientific advancement of cannabis for its use in emergent, acute, and chronic care management. Contrary to the mantra of conventional medicine - that there is not enough research to approve the use of cannabis - there are thousands of published papers on the science of the ECS and cannabis pharmacology, as well as thousands of patients who have benefitted from their use of the plant. As numerous studies show the risk profile of cannabis to be safer than most pharmaceuticals on the market, there should be no roadblocks to its use, thus allowing further study of cannabis to substantiate therapeutic effects.
Along with his family, Dr. David founded the American Cannabinoid Clinics, which aims to deliver precision cannabinoid medicine to patients; and ADVENT Academy, which develops premier training for healthcare professionals in the ECS, endocannabinology and cannabinology.
Education: Dr. David is a graduate of the University of Washington and University of Washington School of Medicine.
